South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Supports Gay Pride

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) is proud to be supporting this year’s South Yorkshire Pride event, which will take place at Sheffield’s Cemetery Park on Saturday 7 June.

The event will provide SYFR with the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of South Yorkshire, help to encourage equality and encourage members of all communities to consider applying for a job within the Service.

A fire engine will be prominently placed at the entrance of the event on Montague Street, and firefighters and other fire & rescue service staff will be running a number of fun activities, including a hose running competition.

They will also be helping to raise awareness of the wide range of careers available within the Service, which are open to people from all communities.  Attendees will be able to access information and advice on applying to the Service, and can talk to staff and firefighters about their experiences.

In addition the event will provide the opportunity to promote safety messages and offer free home fire safety checks.

The event is totally free and invites lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals, their friends and supporters to get involved.  It will be a family event, open to people of all ages to enjoy.

Firefighter Claire Duke, who is based at Brampton Fire Station and has helped to organise South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue’s involvement in the event, said: “It’s a positive move that South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue is proactively getting involved with the gay community.  The event will be a great opportunity to get all LGBT people together, promote equality and also show that people from all communities can have a career in the fire service.”
