Flooding Advice

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue have received several calls over night as a result of flooding in the area.

We are working closely with South Yorkshire Police, Local Authorities and the Environment Agency to deal with the issue across South Yorkshire.

People are being advised to monitor the situation by listening to their local radio stations, which should keep them informed about any flooding in their area and to contact the flood lines if they have any concerns of flooding.

Anyone at risk of flooding should turn electricity and gas boilers off, move up to a higher level within the building and take any expensive items with them.

Keep in contact with any friends or relatives who may be vulnerable and try to avoid traveling if at all possible.

Parents are being advised to keep their children away from river banks as there is a potential danger of the banks giving way.

Those who require sandbags are urged not to call South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, but to contact their Local Authority.

Area Manager Neil Hessell, from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, said:  “Events such as this demonstrate the importance of working with other agencies, such as South Yorkshire Police and the Local Authorities, and our colleagues in other areas, to continue to provide the best possible service to the community that we serve.”
