A Doncaster man who was rescued with his daughter from a fire at their home has paid a special visit to the firefighters who saved his life.
Firefighters pulled Gordon Kidd unconscious from his burning house on Cranbrook Road in Wheatley as his daughter was rescued from an upstairs bedroom window.
Mr Kidd was critically ill following the blaze in September 2009, spending several weeks in hospital, but following a long period of rehabilitation he has now recovered.
On Sunday he visited Doncaster and Edlington firefighters to present the Green Watch crews with an engraved plaque and plate to show his appreciation for their life-saving efforts.
Gordon said: “The hospital staff told me I very nearly didn't survive so I am incredibly grateful that the firefighters rescued me and my daughter when they did.
“I was able to meet the firefighters who pulled me out of the house so it was fantastic to be able to thank them personally.”
Watch Manager Dave Scully from Doncaster station said: “It is not very often that you get to see the person you rescue so Mr Kidd's gesture was very much appreciated by all the firefighters.”
“This was a very serious house fire and it is a credit to the crews involved that they were able to perform such a swift and successful rescue.”
