A couple were alerted to a fire in their Sheffield flat by smoke alarms on Tuesday evening.

The fire, in a second floor flat on Upper Allen Street, near the city centre, was started by an electrical fault in the airing cupboard.

It spread to the insulation around the water cylinder and cuased smoke logging throughout the flat. The couple evacuated the premise unharmed and firefighters quickly put out the blaze and ventilated the flat.
