Around 20 residents were evacuated on Sunday evening after a pile of rubbish caught fire in the lobby area of a block of flats in Sheffield.

The blaze, at the high-rise block on Martin Street in Upperthorpe, caused smoke logging in the lobby and stairwell of the flats.

One of the residents dialled 999 after their smoke alarm alerted them to the blaze.

Firefighters from Central and Rivelin stations extinguished the fire wearing breathing apparatus. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
